That's one festival we dont have in India (thanks giving)and India IS a land of festivals.(we have about 127 festivals to celebrate! There are 8 diferent Indian words for festival.Even I was surprised when I read that in a newspaper article.)What do you do on Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving started when the first european settlers of the USA wanted to give thanks to God for delivering them safely, and letting them survive. The aboriginal inhabitants (called Indians because Columbus thought he had discovered a new route to India!) befriended the pilgrims in Massachusetts, and taught them about the food available -- wild game like turkeys, crops like corn and pumpkins. Thanksgiving gives thanks for the harvest of food.

The festival itself always falls on a Thursday. We are supposed to think about what we are thankful for. It is now focused on eating a huge meal of turkey with a variety of other traditional foods. There is a huge parade in NY, which we might watch on TV, in the morning; there is football on in the afternoon. And the next day is the traditional beginning of Christmas Shopping. The stores are absolute mayhem on that Friday!

How many of the 127 Indian festivals do you actually celebrate, personally? You must be a very busy person!!!

That was interesting info.Thanksgiving is such a nice concept.Actually even I was surprised to read that there are 127 festivals in India.India is a large country with 28 states and 7 union territories. Each state has its own unique language, customs and tradition as well as topography--Its almost like being in another country. So I guess, most of the festivals are regional and thats how they add upto 127.Personally we just celebrate 5.
