The Jersey Pinelands are a natural feature of New Jersey. The pine trees, being very pitchy and flammable, catch fire periodically, which is probably what nature intended. Driving down the Parkway you go through the pinelands and occasionally see areas that are growing back after fire damage. It's a real part of Jersey.
